Once set up, you can assign a race and ethnicity to an employee in Sage HR (as well as sex and gender identity for US customers).

Written by Oliver Cook

If you require recording diversity information, such as the race and ethnicity of your employees, this is possible to do in Sage HR.

To access Diversity information settings:

  1. Click your name in top-right corner, then click Settings.

  2. On the General settings menu, click Employee data.

  3. Click Diversity information.

Race and ethnicity

Add a new Race and ethnicity

Add a new option to choose from when assigning race and ethnicity to an employee.

Assign Race and ethnicity to an employee

You can assign an employee's race and ethnicity from within their profile.

📎NOTE for US customers: The options listed are existing DEI options for EEO requirements. You will receive a warning if you edit, delete these options or add more.

📎NOTE for South Africa customers: Toggle on Collect additional diversity information to show all default Government-defined fields, and show Equity report-related fields within employee profiles. You can no longer add custom race categories when you enable this. For more details, see Enable diversity information for equity reports.

📌TIP: To make this available for employees to view in their profile, assign the View employee sensitive information permission to the Employee role, and set it to Myself.

To allow employees to edit this themselves assign the Edit employee sensitive information permission to the Employee role, and set it to Myself.

For more information on how to add or edit permissions of a role, use our guide, Configure permissions of your roles.
