To control whether someone can view their own or another employee's compensation depends on what the View employee compensation permission is set to for roles they're assigned to.

If you don't want an employee to see other people's compensation then make sure the 'Employee' role is set to Myself for the View employee compensation permission.

The employee must also not be assigned to any other role that has permissions set to allow access to view compensation for other employees.
