Configure how you track overtime

How to choose the way your company tracks overtime in Sage HR.

Written by Oliver Cook

When you set up overtime you need to select how you want to track the overtime within each overtime policy that you have.

There are three options for you to use in an overtime policy.

Daily

When you select this option, Sage HR defines overtime as hours worked that exceed the hours in an employee’s working pattern for that day.

The employee will accumulate overtime from any day on which they work more than their expected hours from their working pattern, regardless of if they work fewer hours on other days in the same period.

Per period

When you select this option, Sage HR defines overtime as hours worked in a period that exceed the employee's working pattern hours for the same period.

In this case, if an employee works fewer hours than their expected hours from their working pattern on any day within the period (e.g. within the same week or month), these hours will be offset against any overtime worked in the same period.

EXAMPLE: The employee works two hours overtime on Monday, but then works one hour less on Friday. In this case, he will end the period with net one overtime hour.

Per period and hidden from timesheet

The overtime information also won't be visible for employees on their timesheet.

📎NOTE: If you use Sage HR integrated with Sage Payroll, you must select Daily for approved timesheets to send across to Sage Payroll.

📌TIP: It's possible to have separate overtime policies that track overtime differently.
