When 2FA is enabled, users must enter a one-time passcode and their Sage account login details to access Sage HR.

You can reset 2FA for an employee if they’re having login issues and lack access to their recovery code or method.

For example, they no longer have access to the device their authenticator app is on, and they aren't receiving their texts or calls with a code.

How to reset 2FA will depend on a couple of factors:

  • Sage HR company integration

  • Type of Sage account login of the user

Click on your integration type below:

📎NOTE: If you access your payslips in a UK Sage HR company, then that company is integrated with Sage 50 Payroll or Sage Payroll.

Admin resets 2FA for an employee

Users that you add as an employee, and upload payslips to their profile, should have what's known as an 'employee Sage ID'. An admin user can manage 2FA for these users within their Sage HR company.

  1. Log in to Sage HR as an admin user.

  2. Go to the employee's profile.

  3. On the Employee tab of the profile menu, scroll to the bottom and click Personal settings.

  4. Click Reset two-factor authentication.

  5. Click Reset two-factor authentication again to confirm you want to reset it.

  6. When you get confirmation it has reset, click Close.

The employee gets an email notifying it has been reset. As long as the employee is selected to require using 2FA, the next time they log in they're prompted to set up 2FA again.

No Reset 2FA button?

If the employee is asked to provide an authentication code, but this reset option doesn't appear on their profile, ask the employee to follow the same steps as if your company doesn't integrate with Sage 50 Payroll UK or Sage Payroll UK.

I'm an admin needing 2FA reset for myself

Have another admin check whether there is a Reset two-factor authentication option within Personal settings in their Sage HR profile.

If there isn't a reset option within the profile, or it doesn't work, log into account.sso.sage.com, click 2-factor authentication, and remove your device. This then allows you to set up 2FA again, either on the same device or a new one.

For more details, use our guide, Remove my device for 2FA.

📎NOTE: If you can't authenticate to log in to account.sso.sage.com, click Verify a different way instead and log in using your recovery code.

If you don't have your recovery code, use your recovery method.

Don't have access to your recovery method?

If you don't have access to your recovery method, an admin user can contact Sage support to reset it. Sage support can only reset 2FA when you or the employee can't log in to account.sso.sage.com with the recovery code or recovery method.
