Managing overtime policies after the overtime update

How to manage your overtime policies in Sage HR post update.

Written by Oliver Cook

The Timesheets module now supports overtime policies, which apply at the timesheet group level.

Previously, overtime settings applied across your whole company. After this update, you can create multiple overtime policies and assign timesheet groups to each policy. This lets you manage different overtime rules for different groups of employees.

After the update, you may see multiple overtime policies alongside a default overtime policy. The number of policies depends on your existing overtime categories and the timesheet groups assigned to them.

If you have duplicate overtime policies:

  • Compare Overtime tracking - For example, Daily or Per period

  • Compare Overtime category - This may say No overtime categories assigned or the name of an overtime category

  • Compare Time off in lieu - For example, this may say Not Enabled or the name of a time off policy

If multiple policies contain identical settings, move all associated timesheet groups to a single policy.

When a duplicate policy has no employees assigned through its timesheet groups, you can delete the policy.

📌TIP: If a duplicate policy matches your default overtime policy, assign the timesheet groups to the default policy where possible.

📎NOTE: Employees inherit their overtime policy from their assigned timesheet group. To move employees to a different policy, reassign the relevant timesheet group to that policy.

Once you've removed any duplicate overtime policies, review your overtime setup and create any additional overtime policies you need.
