ERROR: "You can't request more hours than the length of a full day (XX hours)"

How to resolve this error when submitting a time off request in Sage HR.

Written by Oliver Cook

When submitting a time off request, you see the following error:

You can't request more hours than the length of a full day (XX hours)

For example, it says 7 hours.

This error appears when an employee creates two requests on the same day. Each request uses a different time off policy. Each request also uses specific hours. The system counts the hours together. When the requests cross an unpaid break, the total can go over the daily limit.

You can fix this by submitting the part that overlaps the unpaid break last.

EXAMPLE: The employee works 09:00 to 17:00. They take an unpaid break from 12:00 to 13:00.

The employee wants to request:

  • Annual leave from 09:00 to 15:00

  • TOIL from 15:00 to 17:00

To avoid the error, the employee must request the TOIL first, then request the annual leave.

If the employee has already requested the annual leave, you need to decline it, request the TOIL, then request the annual leave again.
