Accessing Sage HR when using a VPN

An explanation to why you might have issues accessing Sage HR when using a VPN.

Written by Oliver Cook

You can use a VPN (Virtual Private Network) to mask the IP address (and hence the physical location) of the access point used to access websites. Sage doesn't generally block VPN usage when accessing our websites, so it's usually possible to access Sage HR when using a VPN. However, we don't recommend the use of a VPN when accessing Sage HR.

Commercial providers of VPN software use shared IP ranges for their customers. If any of those customers perform malicious activities while using the VPN, this can result in some or all of the IP addresses used by that VPN being blocked by our (and other companies’) security systems.

If you're unable to access Sage HR when using your VPN, check to see whether it works when not using the VPN. If it then works fine, we recommend that you discontinue use of your VPN while using our software.

Can Sage unblock an IP address/IP range for the VPN I want to use?

No. IP addresses are typically dynamically assigned, and blocks are for the protection of all users.
